Walk The Light Deep Ellum 2011

Deep Ellum Dallas based non-profit organization Walk the Light, is throwing an arts festival this Saturday April 9, 2011 from 7-11pm at Life in Deep Ellum cultural center for the benefit of FUEL.PH, a socio-economic venture in the Philippines.

According to their Facebook page, Walk the Light’s purpose is to provide a venue where art can be shared in a wholesome and supportive community, with the goal of giving every genre a voice, in hopes of supporting our art communities and valuable charities.

Their event will feature an eclectic art collective of live music, paintings, craft display, pottery throwing, fire spinning, dance choreography, featured short films and videography, poetry, culinary, and other art forms under one roof.

This year’s venue is Life in Deep Ellum. According to their website, Life in Deep Ellum is a cultural center built for the artistic, social, economic, and spiritual benefit of Deep Ellum and urban Dallas. They host multiple artist showcases weekly including dance performances, galas, and open mic nights.

How Walk the Light Started

Walk the Light was started in October 2010 by singer/songwriter, creative expressionist, and part time barista, Laura Allen. Allen is the Founder, Executive Director & Board Chairman of Walk the Light.

According to their Facebook page, Walk the Light started when two best friends were chatting one day about their desire for an event that brought all of their friend’s art together to be shared and enjoyed in the same place. The founders working musician backgrounds led them to want something different and bigger for the community. They noticed typical arts festivals were missed some elements such as a charitable impact as well as the need in the greater art community to have more under one roof. By putting combination of eclectic art or all kinds and charity component into action,  Walk the Light was born.

Join me tonight.
